
ILO youth employment training workshop
On 8th August, 2025 , Mr. Hosea Mugera, trained the Toolkit Fratenity on the Toolkit Training Model, and the ILO Youth Employment Training workshop, following his training in Turin, Italy. The session aimed to empower youth with vital skills and knowledge to enhance their employability and entrepreneurship.
- Global Youth Employment: Youth aged 14-35 make up 33% of the global population. The youth unemployment rate is three times higher than that of adults.
 
- Informality: One in two young people globally work in the informal economy, facing significant challenges in low-income economies.
 
- Challenges to Youth Employment: Key issues include unemployment, skills mismatch, slow job creation, lack of work experience, and gender disparities.
 
- Global Employment Access by Gender: There is a persistent gap in labor force participation rates between men and women.
 
- Education and Employment per Gender: Educational attainment significantly impacts employment rates for young men and women.
 
- Greatest Youth Employers: The service industry has become the largest employer of young people worldwide.
 
- Green Jobs: Emphasizing the importance of green jobs in tackling climate change and promoting sustainable development.
 
Toolkit for Skills and Innovation
The training emphasized the importance of equipping youth with market-driven skills and fostering entrepreneurship and self-employment opportunities. Mr. Mugera introduced the Toolkit Model, aimed at providing a structured approach to skill development and job readiness.
Toolkit Model Components:
- Technical Skills: Training in specific trades, including welding, to ensure youth are job-ready.
 
- Entrepreneurship: Fostering innovative thinking and business acumen among participants.
 
- Life Skills: Developing soft skills that are essential for workplace success.
 
- Digital Skills: Ensuring participants are equipped to navigate the digital economy.
 
- Work-Based Training: Providing hands-on experience through internships and apprenticeships.
 
- Job Linkage Office: Facilitating connections between skilled youth and employers.
